Glacier Breeze Restaurant Passu Hunza

Gilgit–Baltista n formerly known as the Northern Areas is the northernmost political entity under Pakistani control. It borders Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province to the west, Afghanistan's Wakhan Corridor to the north, China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to the east and northeast, Pakistani-contr olled Azad Jammu and Kashmir to the southwest, and the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir to the southeast. Together with the latter two entities, it forms part of the disputed Kashmir region, which has been the subject of conflict between India and Pakistan since the two countries' independence and partition in 1947.Gilgit–Bal tistan covers an area of 72,971 km² (28,174 mi²) and is highly mountainous. It has an estimated population approaching 1,000,000. Its administrative center is the city of Gilgit (population 216,760).

This gorgeous mountain is named Tupopdan by the locals or Passu Cathedral for it’s shape, towering at about 6000m. It’s the most prominent and eye-catching object as you arrived in Passu, which is another village north of Hunza and south of Khunjerab Pass (border with China). I’ve never seen any mountain like this and it stunned me at first sight. There wasn’t much in Passu to do except a few good walks across the suspension bridges and treks to the glacier. There was a good place to eat called Glacier Breeze Restaurant which is just at the foot of the Passu Glacier, taking the advantage of the cooling breeze from the icy river. It serves really good food, I had an apricot meal (apricot chicken and juice) which was delicious!

I have visited Passu in June 1995 for the first time at that time I was a university student,since that time I visit Hunza.in 2004 I have discovered some ancient rock carvings on Yunz pass,near Passu Glacier Qunghusht,spur  and upper yestif wamdan  for the first time in the history, these rock carvings were 370 in number. in 2005 I discovered over 250 rock carvings across the river Hunza in Khurramabad in the front of glacier breeze restaurant, this is also an addition in the history of Passu.these rock carvings are dated to pre historic period some are dated  8th century A.D.these carvings consists of giants,ibexes,human being,circles,rising sun,lines,buddist symbols etc.those who are interested in it can contact Glacier Breeze Management . Glacier Breeze Camping site and restaurant. if you are going there this restaurant is a must see.. because it's on height you can see whole Passu valley and nearby mountains and specially the Passu Glacier which melts and make a very high roar sound big stream.

High above the Highway, with a stairway to tastebud heaven, this excellent restaurant continues to astound travellers with its quality Hunza-inspired fare and incongruous location. The apricot cake is divine, and chocoholics will have their prayers answered. And there's real coffee! The tented accommodation is set up in summer and includes mattresses, sleeping bags, and hot showers. Entrepreneurial chef Ahmed Ali Khan can provide dried and vacuum-packed meals for trekkers, and runs cooking classes (Rs300, at least an hour).
